Flowers and their Meanings

I was reading a book recently and I came across a passage about the language of flowers. Like a rose means love. Here's some of the flowers and their meanings.

  • Acorn - Nordic symbol of life and immortality
  • Apple - Preference
  • Basil - Best Wishes, Love
  • Bluebell - Humility; Constancy
  • Buttercup - Cheerfulness
  • Cactus - Endurance; Warmth
  • Chrysanthemum - Cheerfulness; You're a wonderful friend
  • Clover - Good Luck
  • Daffodil - Respect
  • Daisy - Innocence
  • Dandelion - Wishes come true
  • Eucalyptus - Protection
  • Fern - Sincerity
  • Forget-Me-Not - True Love
  • Fir - Time
  • Garland of Roses - Reward of Virtue
  • Grass - Submission; Utility
  • Holly - Good will, Defense; Domestic Happiness; Foresight
  • Honeysuckle - Generous and devoted affection
  • Iris - Faith, Hope, Wisdom and Valour
  • Ivy - Fidelity and Friendship
  • Jasmine - Amiability; attracts wealth
  • Lavender - Devotion
  • Lemon - Zest
  • Lily of the Valley - Sweetness; return to happiness; humility
  • Marigold - Comforts the heart
  • Mint - Protection from illness; warmth of feeling
  • Moss - Maternal Love; Charity
  • Orange Blossom - Brings wisdom
  • Orchid - Love; beauty; refinement; beautiful lady; Chinese symbol for many children
  • Palm Leaves - Victory and success
  • Pine - Hope; Pity
  • Poppy - Eternal sleep; oblivion; imagination
  • Primrose - I can't live without you; early youth
  • There are many different meanings attached to a rose, red, white, pink, yellow, a bud, full bloom, they all have different meanings but for the most they mean Love.
  • Rosemary - Remembrance
  • Sage - Wisdom, a long life
  • Snapdragon - Deception; gracious lady; presumption
  • Strawberry - Perfect goodness
  • Sunflower - Loyalty; wishes
  • Sweetpea - Goodbye; departure; blissful pleasure; Thank you for a lovely time
  • Thyme - Strength and courage; ensures restful sleep
  • Tuilp - Fame; charity; perfect lover
  • Violet - Modesty; calms tempers; introduces sleep
